[Musings] Some thoughts for 2026
A few days ago, an online-friend who has been MIA poked me on Discord.
We got writing back and forth about what´s been up since yesteryear and current state of our hobbies and lives. You know, as you do.
While it brought on many memories and smiles, they also raised a question I quietly have been mulling over since last summer.
Should I really start blogging again?
If so, in what format and more importantly, about what?
Skaldsdrápa being a minimalist blog, I also try to lead a minimalist life in general regarding the digital space. I did a complete and utter flush of anything google-branded last year and have since kept cutting down in all areas of "the internet" as it were.
No more doomscrolling, no accounts on social media, no endless algorithm that feeds stuff into my eyeballs that I didn´t ask for.
It´s liberating to be using the internet with intent rather than just spending my time here. Imagine actually interacting with people in a sensible way and searching for information.. Like we did pre-2013?
I have had quite a few revelations about my own addiction to the endless scrolling they make sure we get hooked to.
Firstly; What psychology sums up as "humans are just reptile software running on monkey hardware", is very true. We are obviously very easy to hack.
Secondly: It´s pretty lonely being the only person in any public, and often private, space that isn´t glued to a screen. Pretty interesting to watch them tho.
This makes the use of todays internet a minefield. It's incredibly easy to sit down at the computer to try and get some information on, lets say, how to paint a russian grenadier for the Great Nordic War-era. In what seems like a heartbeat you are scrolling away on something adjacent pertaining Russia. Something you really didn´t intend to read about, and especially not get angry about..
As I hardly use a smartphone for anything other than textmessaging family and calling places [sic], it's at least easy to stop it taking root in my hand. Gone are the years of pulling it out of my pocket at any given moment I feel the slightest bored. Hell, most of the time I don't even know where it is for days. I have to ask family to call it, in hope of finding it somewhere in the house..
Anyhow, back to the subjectmatter of this post. What should I write about?
Anything you feel like, the universe whispered back.
Going forward, I will merge a few bits and pieces from other blogs and forumposts to Skaldsdrápa.
I will post about anything and nothing.
Sometimes with a steady stream of posts, other times will be bone dry.
As I mentioned above I am off some serviceproviders and with that I saved some of my old blog-posts that were interesting to me. I will sprinkle them here along with all kinds of content both gaming-related and not.
Oh, the friend from the start of the post asked for some pointers on how to get out of the google-sphere. The bulletlist I started to write for them grew into a pretty sizeable document that I got positive feedback on.
I will eventually post that too.
Til Ars ok Frithar!
